Will GTA VI Limit Early-Game Exploration?

Even though Grand Theft Auto VI has been in development for nearly a decade, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Rockstar’s highly anticipated title.

More than ten years have passed since Grand Theft Auto V was released, yet the game remains just as popular today as it was back in 2013. Rockstar Games has a reputation for filling its titles with rich content, hidden Easter eggs, unique features, and expansive online experiences, so it’s no surprise that expectations for its sequel are sky-high.

“Maybe the prison section is just a few cutscenes, or maybe we actually get some gameplay inside. Jason and Lucia could be released with ankle monitors that are removed in Chapter Two—it feels very Rockstar-ish to me.”

With only a few months left until we find out for sure, excitement continues to build. Fortunately, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch in fall 2025, and as the release date approaches, fans are actively speculating about what the game might include.

However, with Rockstar having released just a single official trailer so far, many details about GTA VI remain a mystery.

That said, one fan believes they’ve uncovered an interesting clue in the game’s official cover art.

A post by LuxrOfficial on r/GTA6 asks,

“Will GTA VI enforce early-game map restrictions?”

The post includes a zoomed-in image of Lucia, who appears to be wearing an electronic ankle monitor.

As we know, electronic tags typically limit movement, restricting travel distance and allowing individuals to be in public only during certain hours.

This has led to speculation that GTA VI could use Lucia’s ankle monitor as a way to impose early-game map restrictions.

“Lucia’s ankle monitor seems like an obvious way to limit movement early on, but what about Jason?” the original poster asks.

“If he doesn’t have the same restriction, could he have more freedom to explore? To my knowledge, GTA V was the only title that allowed full map exploration from the start. Will Rockstar stick with that approach, or return to their older style?”

However, user littlestevebrule believes they’ve cracked the code.

“I think we’ll get a much longer prologue than GTA V’s, more in line with RDR2 in length, ending with both characters getting arrested after the gas station robbery,” they theorized.
