GTA Trilogy Sees Surge in Xbox Players After Major Update

Three years after its troubled launch, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received a major update that’s bringing players back to the game. The update, released last week, has led to a huge increase in players on Xbox, especially for GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition. Xbox player numbers for the game have jumped by 135%, according to data from over 2.4 million Xbox accounts, thanks to Title Update 1.112.

When the trilogy first launched in 2021, fans and critics were disappointed due to poor performance and changes that didn’t capture the feel of the original games. The new update adds a “Classic Lighting” mode, restoring the nostalgic glow of the original versions, particularly for San Andreas. This has excited fans and encouraged many to revisit the game or try it for the first time.

The update has also boosted Xbox player numbers for GTA: Vice City by 300% and GTA III by 398%. The timing of the update with a 60% discount during Xbox’s Black Friday Sale has further driven interest.

Rockstar seems to have turned things around with this update, making the remastered trilogy more appealing to fans. Meanwhile, in other news, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said the Xbox Series S won’t pose a problem for the performance of the upcoming GTA 6.
